Isar Aerospace is seeking a Propulsion Design Engineer to drive the development of rocket engine hardware from initial concept through qualification and production. This role focuses on the mechanical design, analysis, and integration of engine structural components, piping, and subsystem packaging.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own complex engine assemblies from concept to hardware delivery, balancing technical scope, schedule, and integration requirements
- Design and develop engine hardware and fluid routing using CAD tools, including detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings
- Drive iterative development and continuous optimization of flight-proven hardware
- Implement engine layout improvements while complying with engine functional requirements
- Define and manage interfaces with adjacent systems and collaborate with fluid systems, combustion, structures, manufacturing, and testing teams
- Perform structural and thermal analyses to ensure component performance and system reliability
- Focus on component placement, mass optimization, and manufacturability
- Develop design solutions that reduce weight, part count, and costs while ensuring performance and reliability
The role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams and a strong understanding of engine architecture and system-level integration.
Qualifications:
- M.Sc. or M.Eng. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Proven engineering excellence and experience solving complex technical problems
- Experience in mechanical design of complex assemblies within the aerospace sector
- Experience with machining processes, tolerancing, and technical drawing standards
- Proficiency with CAD software, preferably Siemens NX, including detailed part and assembly modeling and drawing creation
- Experience with design for manufacturability principles
- Experience in structural and thermal analysis, employing both analytical methods and simulation tools for component and system design
- Ability to effectively collaborate within multidisciplinary and cross-functional teams
- Highly organized and proactive, with strong attention to detail
- Passion for rocket propulsion and space
- Driven, curious, and eager to learn
- Fluent in English
Bonus Skills:
- Experience in rocket engine design and development
- Acquainted with fluid plans and rocket engine architectures
- Experience with Python or similar programming languages for engineering automation
- Experience using Siemens Teamcenter or other PLM systems
- Professional working proficiency in German
