Whisper Aero is seeking a Propulsion Aerodynamics Engineer to support the design of breakthrough propulsion technologies that deliver cleaner, quieter, and more efficient aircraft propulsion systems. The company is pioneering open rotor propulsion solutions that overcome current safety, noise, and performance limitations, enabling aircraft to operate anywhere without disturbing communities while achieving greater speeds and efficiency gains.
You will be responsible for aerodynamic design work at the conceptual and preliminary levels, with a focus on compressor and fan design. Core responsibilities include supporting the continued development of Whisper Aero's proprietary fan design software and contributing to the aerodynamic design of the company's propulsion technology.
Required expertise includes strong fundamentals in aerodynamics, fluid mechanics, propulsion, and thermodynamics. You must demonstrate high proficiency in object-oriented programming (Python preferred) and design/optimization methodologies. Additional valuable skills include software development, airfoil and cascade design, aeroacoustics, parametric geometry generation, CAD, low-to-mid fidelity aero/propulsion analysis tools, CFD, and propulsion integration.
This is an individual contributor role at a venture-backed aerospace startup founded by industry veterans Mark Moore and Ian Villa. The company is building a world-class engineering team in Nashville focused on next-generation propulsion innovation. You'll work on technically challenging problems at the intersection of aerodynamics, software, and propulsion systems design.
