Deep Sky is developing Direct Air Capture (DAC) technologies to remove CO2 from the atmosphere and is building commercial-scale facilities across Canada. As a Project Engineer, you will contribute to planning, design, and execution of DAC projects from early design through commissioning and startup.
You will own and drive project schedules, budgets, and execution strategies across all phases: planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover. Key responsibilities include developing strategic project execution plans for expedited delivery, leading site selection and power sourcing decisions, and coordinating across internal teams, contractors, and external partners to keep milestones on track. You will anticipate roadblocks, proactively manage risks, oversee vendor selection and coordination, and maintain organized project documentation including permits, contracts, and reports. You'll provide concise updates to senior leadership to support fast decision-making.
You will also lead development and execution of small to medium capital projects from feasibility through commissioning, defining scope, preparing cost estimates, and developing detailed schedules. You'll manage procurement processes, supervise contractors and vendors, track project performance, and prepare comprehensive project documentation. On the technical side, you'll identify and lead initiatives to optimize plant processes, increase energy efficiency, and reduce operating costs. You'll conduct technical studies, develop and implement technical standards and best practices, and stay informed about emerging technologies and regulations.
Collaboration is central to the role: you'll work with multidisciplinary teams across operations, maintenance, HSE, finance, and project management. You'll lead technical meetings, present project updates to stakeholders, and serve as a key liaison with external partners, contractors, and regulatory authorities. You may also mentor junior engineers or interns.
Additionally, you'll act as the primary engineering contact for daily plant operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient performance. You'll troubleshoot complex equipment and system issues, lead preventive and corrective maintenance strategies, monitor plant KPIs, and ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Travel to project sites is required 3–4 days per week to Innisfail to maintain close alignment with the team.
