Crusoe is a vertically integrated AI infrastructure company building the energy and compute stack to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. As Project Controls Manager, you will own the cost and schedule integrity of all Engineered-to-Order (ETO) manufacturing programs, serving as the analytical backbone of the PMO.
You will not run projects directly; instead, you will make the people who run projects measurably better at their work. Your responsibilities span:
**Baseline Standards & Governance**: Establish PMO-wide standards for cost and schedule baselining, including a common Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and cost code structure across manufacturing sectors (Spark MDC, PDC buildings, switchgear, switchboards). Define change control standards for baseline revisions, audit compliance, and ensure original commitments remain visible after changes.
**Estimate-to-Baseline Handoff**: Validate that awarded scope, quoted hours, material costs, and margin assumptions are correctly loaded before programs start—this is where most margin is won or lost.
**Budget Reporting & Forecasting**: Build cost-to-complete and estimate-at-completion tooling that project managers use daily. Partner with PMs on standards and cadence to keep numbers trustworthy. Roll portfolio-level data, work variances with responsible PMs, and deliver leadership a forecast the whole team stands behind.
**Monthly Program Economics Review**: Own the standing monthly economics review across both sectors. Set calendar, publish pre-reads, run meetings, and hold the drumbeat month-over-month. Each sector manager brings a signed cost-to-complete position; you validate models, challenge operational assumptions, and drive variance and recovery items to documented owners with dates.
**SOP & Tooling Ownership**: Own the SOPs and tooling that make reviews executable—forecast submission artifacts, variance and recovery logs, pre-read packages, and reporting templates. Write procedures, version them, train PMs, and revise as the process evolves.
**Reporting & Dashboard Tooling**: Build and maintain the data layer and reporting tooling behind sector executive dashboards. Own source-of-truth queries, refresh automation, and reconciliation that makes both sectors' numbers comparable.
**Data Integrity & ERP Governance**: Own cost data hygiene across the PMO—cost code discipline, work order structure, WIP accuracy, and BOM-to-job-cost alignment. Audit for drift and keep bad inputs from reaching forecasts.
**Portfolio Risk & Contingency Management**: Track contingency and risk allowance across the active portfolio. Give leadership a defensible view of remaining cushion against known exposure.
**PM Enablement & Training**: Onboard every new project manager onto the controls toolset and reporting standard. Run refreshers as tooling changes and build cost and schedule competency across the PM population.
**Cross-Functional Collaboration**: Partner with Finance and Accounting on revenue recognition, WIP valuation, and variance explanation. Support Estimating with actualized cost feedback for future bids.
**Post-Mortem Analysis**: Lead financial and schedule post-mortem analysis at project close-out and publish trend findings back into estimating and operations.
This role is deliberately cross-sector and requires deep analytical capability, credibility to hold project managers and operations leaders to standards, and the ability to influence without direct authority. Your work directly impacts Crusoe's ability to deploy infrastructure that computes from sustainable, renewable, and stranded energy sources.
**Requirements:**
- Minimum 6+ years in project controls, cost engineering, or manufacturing finance, including work in an ETO or make-to-order production environment
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Accounting, or a closely related quantitative field
- Demonstrated ownership of cost baselines, earned value or equivalent progress measurement, and estimate-at-completion forecasting
- Advanced Google Sheets modeling including dynamic cost structures, sensitivity analysis, and large-scale data reconciliation
- Hands-on ERP experience for job costing, work orders, and BOM-level cost roll-up; proficiency in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
- Strong scheduling literacy across Smartsheet, MS Project, Monday.com, or Primavera P6, with ability to audit and correct schedule logic
- Proven ability to influence project managers and operations leaders without direct authority
- Safety and compliance: This position is designated safety-sensitive; drug and alcohol program participation is required
**Bonus qualifications:**
- Acumatica experience
- Experience supporting both discrete manufacturing and construction-style project accounting
- Power BI, Looker Studio, or Python-based reporting automation
- Experience using AI-assisted analytics for forecast modeling, schedule risk analysis, anomaly detection, or reporting automation
- AACE certification (CCP, EVP, PSP) or equivalent
- Prior experience standing up a project controls function from scratch
- Data center construction experience
- MBA in Business, Accounting, or Engineering/Project Management
