Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, seeks a Programs Chief Engineer to lead the technical vision, architecture, and execution of the Dive-XL autonomous underwater system for a major U.S. undersea defense program. You will serve as the single point of technical accountability, bridging hardware, software, and operational domains to deliver robust, reliable, high-performing systems to the warfighter.
In this role, you will define and drive the system's architecture and technical roadmap while ensuring engineering excellence across a multi-disciplinary team. You will act as the ultimate technical authority for system architecture and design decisions across all engineering disciplines—mechanical, electrical, software, autonomy, acoustics, and materials. Your responsibilities include overseeing the end-to-end development lifecycle from requirements definition through deployment, defining test and evaluation strategies, and leading resolution of complex technical challenges.
You will provide technical mentorship to engineering teams, identify and mitigate technical risks, and serve as a primary technical point of contact for internal stakeholders, customers, and partners. You will manage cross-team technical dependencies, communicate complex technical information clearly, and collaborate with counterparts across sites to ensure architectural consistency. Additionally, you will drive build-vs-buy decisions, manage technical debt, balance delivery speed against system sustainability, and stay current with cutting-edge technologies in autonomous underwater systems.
Required: Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or related discipline. 15+ years designing, developing, integrating, and deploying complex autonomous systems. 5+ years as Chief Engineer, Technical Director, Lead Architect, Engineering Fellow, or equivalent senior technical leadership role.
