Tailscale is seeking a Program Manager to join the EPD (Engineering, Product & Design) operations team in a fully remote role. This is a tactical, hands-on position focused on building and refining the processes and operational rhythms that keep the engineering organization running smoothly.
You will own and continuously improve processes for bug tracking, incidents, reliability, and escalations. Key responsibilities include spotting trends in operational health data and translating them into actionable insights; building dashboards and reports in Jira and Snowflake to provide visibility into EPD's operational health; designing and implementing process changes based on data-driven findings; identifying process gaps and developing appropriately scoped solutions; supporting planning activities and project tracking; running project status reviews and leadership roadmap reviews; connecting dots across systems and teams to eliminate overlap and simplification opportunities; supporting ad-hoc initiatives requiring structure or coordination; facilitating project retrospectives; and driving continuous improvement in business operating procedures.
Tailscale is a fully distributed, early-stage company building a secure networking platform on WireGuard. Founded in 2019 and backed by Accel, CRV, Insight, Heavybit, and Uncork Capital, the company serves teams from hobbyists to multinational corporations.
You will work independently and asynchronously, collaborating closely with highly technical teams. A deep understanding of how engineering teams operate, common workflows, tooling, and friction points is essential. The role requires comfort with ambiguity, a tactical execution-first mindset, and the ability to thrive in a remote startup environment.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience as a Program Manager or Technical Program Manager (TPM) coordinating with stakeholders and cross-functional teams, particularly within Engineering and Product
- Experience as a Program/TPM in a remote startup environment
- Deep, working understanding of technical engineering space: how teams operate day-to-day, common workflows and tooling, and where technical and process friction typically appears
- Experience owning operational health processes (bug tracking, incidents, reliability, escalations) and using them to drive measurable efficiency gains
- Strong data skills including building dashboards and reports in Jira and Snowflake, and ability to read and interpret data
- Ability to spot trends in data and translate them into clear narratives about what's happening, why it matters, and what should change
- Experience supporting planning cycles, project tracking, and recurring reviews (project status reviews, leadership roadmap reviews, priority reviews)
- Comfort with ambiguity and undefined deliverables; motivated by taming chaos and improving operations
- Tactical, execution-first orientation; energized by hands-on implementation
- Experience working with Engineering, Product, and Design leadership; understanding their motivations and priorities
- Ability to give and receive constructive feedback; ability to work independently
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to support and champion innovation and inclusivity
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and project management tools (Jira, Notion, GitHub)
- Familiarity with technical solutions, engineering practices, and security and engineering lifecycle
