GitLab is seeking a Professional Services Technical Architect to lead the technical direction of customer engagements from early scoping and discovery through delivery. This is an intermediate-level role combining deep technical expertise with customer-facing leadership in a remote, asynchronous environment.
You will design high-level architectures and implementation plans for GitLab infrastructure and functionality, ensuring deliverables align with customer requirements and Statements of Work. You'll coordinate and guide implementation work across GitLab Professional Services and partner consultants, supporting customers deploying GitLab in cloud and on-premises environments using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and the GitLab Environment Toolkit. You'll lead source code management and CI/CD migrations to GitLab using Congregate, provide DevOps and DevSecOps consulting and best practices, and contribute reusable collateral such as documentation, delivery kits, and training materials.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and delivering GitLab reference architecture implementations for self-managed and cloud environments using infrastructure-as-code practices
- Leading full technical delivery lifecycle for Professional Services engagements from scoping through implementation and handoff
- Producing high-level and detailed technical designs for GitLab infrastructure, evaluating scalability and security considerations
- Deploying and configuring GitLab in customer environments on-premises and in major cloud providers
- Planning and executing source system migrations to GitLab, partnering with customer stakeholders to reduce risk and minimize downtime
- Providing DevOps and DevSecOps consulting, including guidance on internal frameworks such as the Delivery Governance Framework and GitLab Flow
- Coordinating implementation work across GitLab team members, partners, and customer points of contact with clear asynchronous communication
- Mentoring Professional Services and partner consultants through documentation, delivery kits, training materials, and enablement sessions
- Maintaining and improving delivery automation assets with emphasis on code cleanliness and appropriate testing
- Supporting scoping and SOW creation, staying current on GitLab releases, and assisting Regional Delivery Managers with technical vetting while maintaining 55% billable utilization
- Developing case studies, presentations, design documentation, and best-practice methodologies
You will work more independently than an associate consultant, leveraging deep technical expertise to drive customer outcomes. The role reports to the Regional Delivery Manager and models skills aligned with GitLab values.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including ability to lead technical discussions with customers and partners and communicate risks/trade-offs clearly in asynchronous environments
- Preference for PST, MST, or CST timezone alignment; comfortable with up to 30% travel
- Demonstrated experience delivering two or more of: source code management migration, cloud architecture, DevOps engineering, or CI/CD consulting services
- Enterprise software development experience with ability to translate requirements into clear technical designs and implementation plans
- Progressive DevOps platform experience, including designing and implementing reliable, scalable systems with clear performance and security trade-offs
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing infrastructure in cloud providers and on-premises environments using tools such as Terraform and Ansible
- Ability to write clean, maintainable automation/integration code (Terraform modules, Ansible roles, scripts) and validate changes with appropriate testing and code review
- Experience performing migrations to GitLab, including using Congregate or similar migration tooling
- Working knowledge of data consistency and integrity concepts (ACID properties) and their impact on migration design and performance trade-offs
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, organizational, and time management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
- Comfort working in remote, asynchronous environments using documented decisions to keep work unblocked across time zones
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or other advanced technical degree, or equivalent experience
