The Production Support Engineer will serve as a critical engineering anchor on the manufacturing floor at IonQ's Bothell, Washington facility. This is a hands-on role requiring daily presence on the production floor, not desk-based work. The engineer will provide real-time technical support to production technicians as they build, integrate, and test highly complex quantum computing hardware systems.
Key responsibilities include: investigating and triaging component failures or assembly issues; determining disposition (rework, scrap, or material review board escalation); reviewing and updating assembly documentation, standard operating procedures, and build logs; designing and procuring fixtures, jigs, and shop aids to improve assembly safety, speed, and repeatability; ensuring production lines have calibrated tooling and specialized equipment; serving as the bridge between floor technicians and core design/manufacturing engineering teams to translate production challenges into design-for-manufacturability feedback; initiating and documenting non-conformance reports to track quality trends; and assisting in technician onboarding and training on engineering specifications and delicate handling procedures for optics, ultra-high vacuum components, and precision cabling.
The role involves up to 10% domestic or international travel. This is an in-office position in Bothell, WA.
