Salary: USD 125,000 - 195,000 / annual

SpaceX's application software team builds mission-critical platforms that power vehicle software delivery, testing, and operations for Falcon 9, Starship, Dragon, and Starlink. As a Production Engineer in Site Reliability, you will focus on reducing safety-critical build and test times for vehicle software while ensuring the reliability and scalability of systems that directly support SpaceX's launch and operations cadence. You will deploy, upgrade, operate, and maintain mission-critical products and services that enable rapid iteration on aerospace software. Key responsibilities include managing infrastructure as code, implementing modern observability tools, collaborating with software engineers to design operable systems, and participating in the full software development lifecycle from design through deployment and continuous refinement. You'll practice sustainable incident response, provide end-user support to vehicle software engineers, participate in on-call rotations, and identify performance bottlenecks through measurement and creative engineering. The role requires a strong SRE mindset with deep care for safety, quality, and attention to detail. You should understand the big picture before writing code, enjoy hard problem-solving, think strategically, and be decisive and self-critical. Every SpaceX launch depends on software built with the tools you design and scale. Basic qualifications include a bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering (or 3+ years of professional SRE/DevOps experience), 1+ years of Python development experience, and Linux operating systems knowledge. Preferred skills include experience with build systems (Bazel, Buck, Make), container and virtualization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, vSphere), databases (Postgres, MySQL, ClickHouse), infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, Ansible, Puppet), and full-stack development. Aerospace experience is not required; SpaceX values smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who take ownership of challenging problems.
