Baseten is an AI inference platform serving companies like Cursor, Notion, OpenEvidence, Abridge, Clay, Gamma, and Writer. The company recently raised $1.5B in Series F funding and is building the infrastructure that enables developers and enterprises to run AI models in production at scale.
You will join the Product Platform team as a backend/distributed systems engineer, working across three core areas: commercialization and billing, developer productivity and agentic development, and observability platforms.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design and build scalable telemetry ingest and storage pipelines for metrics, logs, and traces across Baseten's multi-cloud infrastructure
- Own and evolve core observability platforms, driving migrations and architectural improvements that improve reliability, reduce cost, and scale with organizational growth
- Build world-class commercialization and billing systems
- Work on strategic partnership integrations
- Develop internal infrastructure and tooling that improves developer velocity, CI/CD, and deployment safety
- Own the internal AI agent platform end-to-end—architecture, build, rollout, operation, and measurement
- Own Baseten's testing strategy end-to-end—define standards, tiers, and tooling that engineering teams build against
- Drive adoption through developer experience with good defaults, clear documentation, and low friction
- Improve platform reliability through better alerting, incident tooling, and production debugging workflows
- Lead technical design for cross-team projects and make sound tradeoffs between speed, quality, and long-term maintainability
- Partner with infrastructure, model performance, and product teams to understand their needs
- Raise the engineering bar through code review, mentorship, and clear technical writing
This is a high-impact role at a well-funded, fast-growing company working on mission-critical infrastructure for the AI industry.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of relevant industry experience, with focus on building scalable backend systems and platforms
- Experience building or operating observability systems (logging, metrics, tracing) or internal infrastructure at scale
- Proficiency in Python, Go, Rust, or similar backend language
- Firm grasp of quality and engineering principles; understanding of both what and why
- Strong systems-level thinking; understanding of how distributed system components interact and data flows
- Platform mindset; building for adoption and self-service, treating internal engineers as customers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
