Tailscale is hiring a Senior Product Manager to own the developer experience for building Tailscale-native applications—software with Tailscale connectivity and identity built in from the start. You will own the roadmap for TSNet (Go library), tailscale-rs (Rust SDK family including C++, Python, and Elixir bindings), the Tailscale CLI, and the core client library. Your mission is to reduce friction in the developer journey from "I read a blog post" to "Tailscale is running inside my product."
Key responsibilities include: defining what "Tailscale-native application" means through reference architectures and golden paths; owning the end-to-end developer experience (on-ramp, API ergonomics, error messages, documentation, examples); setting the Rust SDK strategy; treating the CLI as a first-class product for scripting and infrastructure-as-code; running the internal dogfood loop with teams like Aperture and Tailscale PAM; partnering with GTM on embedding deals with AI platforms and developer tools; and engaging developers directly through GitHub, Discord, and office hours.
You will report to the VP Product and collaborate closely with Rust, Go, and Clients engineering teams, plus internal and external partners building on Tailscale primitives. Companies like LM Studio, NVIDIA, and Namespace.co already embed Tailscale; your job is to make that integration pattern the norm for thousands more applications.
The role requires 6+ years in product management or a software engineering background transitioning to product, with substantial experience on developer-facing products (SDKs, APIs, CLIs, libraries, developer tools). You should be able to read Go and/or Rust, have strong opinions about API design and developer experience, conduct customer research through GitHub issues and community channels, and turn ambiguous scope into shipped increments.
