Adyen is a global financial technology platform serving the world's largest businesses (Meta, Uber, H&M, Microsoft) with payments, data, and financial products. This role owns the design system and technical frameworks that power Adyen's customer experiences across its portal, embedded components, and checkout flows. You will be responsible for deciding what gets built next in the UI component library and technical infrastructure, treating internal engineers and designers as your customers. Your core responsibilities include: • Own the design system and technical frameworks that Adyen's product teams leverage to build customer experiences. Define priorities for UI components and the infrastructure powering them. • Maintain high standards for every component, since they appear in front of merchants, their users, and shoppers. Sweat the details that end customers see. • Set standards that accelerate team velocity. Define what good looks like for interfaces at Adyen and build governance that teams experience as helpful rather than restrictive. • Drive adoption without direct authority. Support teams with their own roadmaps to build on shared foundations you provide, influencing through clarity and value rather than mandate. • Measure what matters. Set clear metrics for adoption, speed, and experience quality. Use data to decide where to invest and when to reset course. • Work across disciplines. Partner closely with engineering and design within your team, and with product, design, and engineering leads across Adyen. • Understand your customers deeply. Learn how internal engineers and designers build on your foundations, and how merchants and shoppers use what they build. This is a platform product role requiring experience building products whose customers are other developers or teams. You'll need to understand the demands of that model: clear contracts, careful change management, and not breaking downstream consumers. REQUIREMENTS: • Platform product experience: demonstrated success building products for developer or internal-team customers, with understanding of versioning, backwards compatibility, and change management. • Design sensibility and craft: strong eye for interface quality, attention to detail, ability to hold components to high standards and articulate why it matters. • Adoption and influence: proven ability to get teams you don't control to adopt your work in a high-autonomy, bottom-up culture. • Judgment on standards: ability to discern when standards accelerate teams versus when they create friction; comfort holding that tension. • Product execution: can take open-ended problems, create clear plans, and ship with velocity across multiple teams. • Analytical rigor: set clear metrics, use data to align priorities, measure impact, and adjust course. • Customer obsession: genuine interest in understanding both internal engineers/designers and external merchants/shoppers. BONUS: • Experience owning a design system, component library, or UI framework. • Background in frontend engineering or product design. • Experience in payments, fintech, or regulated domains.
