The Pricing & Monetization team at OpenAI is responsible for designing pricing models, packaging, and commercial strategies that drive adoption and growth. This Pricing Strategist role focuses on shaping how ChatGPT and Codex are priced and monetized, with model pricing as a core responsibility. You will develop pricing and packaging strategy across plan usage limits, entitlements, credits, overages, and emerging monetization models—balancing customer value, growth, and unit economics. Key responsibilities include analyzing customer usage patterns, building financial models, and evaluating pricing experiments to guide strategic decisions. You'll partner closely with senior leaders across Product, GTM, and Finance to ensure pricing aligns with product value, roadmap, commercial motions, and overall growth plans. The role demands deep analytical work: digging into how products function, translating that understanding into clear pricing recommendations, and developing recommendations grounded in customer preferences, product value, and market dynamics. You'll also establish lightweight but effective pricing governance, including decision frameworks, approval processes, and performance tracking. Success requires proactive problem-solving, strategic thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and precision in execution. You should be analytical, detail-oriented, skilled at balancing multiple priorities, and passionate about driving high-stakes projects. The role reports to the Head of Product Pricing for Chat & Codex. REQUIREMENTS: - 6+ years of experience in a strategy role (e.g., consulting or business operations) - 3+ years of hands-on pricing and monetization experience, with a track record of developing and launching self-serve subscription or usage-based offerings (sales-led motion experience is a plus) - Deep familiarity with various monetization models, including seat-based subscriptions and usage-based pricing - Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills: ability to independently analyze complex data, build financial models, pressure-test assumptions, and translate findings into clear commercial recommendations - Ability to balance customer value, product strategy, and commercial outcomes thoughtfully - Comfort influencing senior cross-functional stakeholders and navigating ambiguous decisions - Self-starter mentality; comfortable operating in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments
