New Relic is seeking a Product Manager for Dirac, the data platform that stores and serves customer observability data at scale. This is a strategic, full business-owner role spanning four core areas: storage (tiering, retention, pricing at enormous scale), query (NRQL, SQL, natural language via AI), at-rest processing (streaming alerts, aggregation, roll-ups), and federation (querying data across clouds, regions, and customer-owned storage with data sovereignty support).
You will own the product vision and strategy, turning long-term technical direction into a prioritized roadmap that evolves with market and technology changes. Key responsibilities include acting as a true business owner—spotting roadblocks, lining up resources, and driving complex platform initiatives to completion while tracking query volume, data growth, unit costs, and margins. You'll define the future of querying observability data, shape how customers use NRQL, SQL, and AI-driven natural language queries, and position AI agents as first-class platform users.
You'll drive at-rest processing strategy (streaming alerts, aggregation, in-platform processing) to help customers get answers faster and reduce costs. You'll lead federation and data sovereignty strategy, building capabilities for querying data across clouds, regions, and customer-owned storage, including New Relic Lens, data residency, and compliance requirements. The role requires constant experimentation with AI—both in product features and in your own work—and frequent customer engagement across enterprise and fast-growing startup segments.
You'll be data-driven, defining and tracking platform metrics (query volume, latency, data stored, cost per GB, adoption) to inform decisions and communicate impact. You'll partner across engineering, architecture, design, finance, sales, and marketing to deliver end-to-end value and successful go-to-market launches. The team is customer-led, highly technical, and moves fast; you'll thrive if you're curious about hard problems, comfortable with complexity and ambiguity, and prefer experimentation to waiting for perfect information.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience; Computer Science or related technical field preferred
- 5+ years of product management experience building and launching technical products, ideally platform, data, or infrastructure products
- Strong technical foundation; ability to go deep on storage, query engines, distributed systems, and cloud architecture with engineering partners
- Hands-on experience with AI and LLM tools, both for personal productivity and building products on top of them
- Proven ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative data and turn it into high-impact decisions
- Comfort with ambiguity and complexity; ability to take vague problems and turn them into actionable plans
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; ability to lead through influence rather than authority
- Strong bias for action; self-directed, figures out what needs to happen and leads the charge
BONUS EXPERIENCE:
- Databases, data warehouses, lakehouses, or query engines (ClickHouse, Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Druid, Elasticsearch)
- Observability products or telemetry data at scale
- Streaming and real-time processing systems (Kafka, Flink)
- Data sovereignty, data residency, or regulated environments (FedRAMP, HIPAA, GDPR)
- Usage-based pricing, unit economics, or COGS on data platforms
- Public cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Enterprise B2B SaaS with developer or data personas
