Salary: USD 140,000 - 150,000 / annual
Vibrant Planet is seeking a Senior Product Manager to own the data platform—the cloud infrastructure, distributed compute, pipeline orchestration, and delivery mechanisms for core data products and open science initiatives. The role focuses on geospatial data systems that serve internal teams, applications, and external customers in support of wildfire mitigation and community resilience planning.
Key responsibilities include gathering and prioritizing requirements from dependent teams, translating platform needs into clear technical specifications for engineering teams, and partnering with engineers, product managers, and external contractors to execute delivery. You will drive documentation and developer experience improvements, define and track success metrics around adoption, reliability, delivery time, and cost, and ensure compliance with information security policies.
The ideal candidate has a degree or equivalent in computer science, engineering, data science, machine learning, geospatial science, or related quantitative discipline, with 3+ years in technical product, platform, or data-engineering roles. Required experience includes coordinating multiple engineering teams for production-grade delivery, working with cloud-native geospatial data at continental to global scales, shaping external-facing or data-as-a-service APIs, and hands-on understanding of cloud infrastructure, distributed compute, and workflow orchestration. Strong technical writing skills are essential—the ability to translate direction into specifications engineers can build from.
Preferred qualifications include background in machine learning and MLOps with production infrastructure experience, familiarity with agentic AI and designing data/APIs for AI-agent access, and background in wildfire, forestry, or climate science. The role is fully remote and suited for someone comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment.
