Scotch is building a next-generation operating system for beverage alcohol retailers, combining POS, payments, back office, and e-commerce into a platform purpose-built for liquor stores. The company is modernizing the $1.6T beverage alcohol market and has raised $28M from top-tier investors including VMG Partners and First Round Capital, with a recent $20M Series A closed in 2026 off 500%+ YoY growth and $1B+ in processed payment volume. You will own the in-store experience at Scotch — the Android point-of-sale terminal that merchants use to ring up every sale. This is a hands-on role with real autonomy. You'll own the terminal end-to-end: spending time in stores watching people use it, setting direction for what the team builds, and working with engineering to ship it. You'll be the person who knows how the device actually behaves in a busy store on a Friday night, not just in a demo. Key responsibilities include: - Own the roadmap for the point-of-sale app and shape the direction for the register experience - Prioritize across merchant escalations, platform work, and long-horizon bets; partner closely with engineering on scoping and sequencing - Spend real time in stores with merchants and their staff to learn what they need and where actual behavior differs from stated needs - Translate messy, conflicting merchant input into clear direction and hold that direction as inputs change - Ensure the app holds up in real stores: peripherals, unreliable networks, and high-pace operations - Own releases end-to-end, deciding what ships and what waits, how it rolls out, and managing response when issues arise - Serve as the product point of contact for support, onboarding, and go-to-market on register-related work - Define success metrics before building, then measure adoption and be candid about outcomes - Raise the bar around you on how the team writes, decides, and talks to merchants The role is in a small product org, meaning you'll make calls without a committee and be accountable for the outcomes. You won't set strategy alone but will have a real hand in shaping it and the closest view of the customer of anyone in the room. Qualifications & Requirements: - 5+ years of product management experience - Experience owning a native mobile app as a product surface (heavily preferred): setting release cadence, rolling changes to devices already in use, and deciding what to do when a version in the field is broken. Fleet or MDM experience is preferred over consumer app publishing - Track record of being the only person accountable for a decision, with no one reviewing work before it shipped - Consistent habit of direct customer contact: sitting with users, watching them work, and changing direction based on observation. In this role, that happens in person at merchants' stores - Sound judgment you can explain, including ability to walk through decisions you got wrong - Experience running several workstreams at once and making tradeoffs between them yourself - Clear communication for different audiences: writing specs engineers can build from, then explaining the same decision to merchants, support leads, and executives Nice to haves: experience with hardware, peripherals, or devices deployed in the field; products built for busy, interrupted environments; retail or point-of-sale background with independent or small-format merchants; payments experience; fluency with AI tools in daily workflow.
