BackOps is building an AI resolution layer for companies in the physical economy—logistics, manufacturing, retail, and related industries. The company's platform, Relay, deploys AI operators that automate operational workflows across fragmented systems (ERPs, WMSs, TMSs, carrier portals, email, spreadsheets, legacy systems). Rather than building dashboards or copilots, BackOps creates an execution layer that understands workflows, integrates with existing systems, takes action, handles exceptions, and resolves problems end-to-end. The company recently raised a $42M Series B led by Insight Partners. As Product Manager for the Agent Platform, you will own the product foundation that makes Relay extensible, reliable, secure, and reusable across customers, systems, and workflows. The core challenge: making AI agents work reliably in environments never designed for AI, where a single workflow might span an ERP, a carrier portal without an API, email, PDFs, custom business rules, and human approvals. Your role sits at the intersection of product architecture, enterprise infrastructure, agent execution, customer deployments, and developer experience. Key Responsibilities: - Build and own the platform underneath every AI operator, including integrations, connectors, APIs, webhooks, browser automation, workflow orchestration, identity/permissions, agent tooling, execution state management, recovery, observability, and enterprise security controls. - Turn customer deployment patterns into reusable platform capabilities. Decide what belongs in core platform versus custom implementation, which integrations to build natively versus enable others to extend, and where abstractions add value versus complexity. - Define product requirements and operating standards for enterprise-scale reliability: latency, isolation, permissions, traceability, error recovery, governance, and security. - Create a world-class builder experience by defining primitives, interfaces, APIs, tools, and product surfaces that make the platform powerful without unnecessary complexity. - Establish metrics that demonstrate platform compounding: time to launch integrations/workflows, deployment/configuration time, reuse across customers, execution success rates, platform reliability, and engineering effort per deployment. - Partner closely with engineering, founders, designers, GTM, and customers to identify recurring complexity and turn it into durable platform primitives. This is a senior individual contributor role with significant leverage. You will help define the product architecture BackOps scales on, not inherit a mature roadmap. Requirements: - 6+ years of relevant experience in product management, engineering, founding, or similarly technical product-building roles, with meaningful ownership at Senior or Staff level. - Proven track record building platform, infrastructure, API, integration, workflow, developer, or similarly technical products used in production. - Exceptional technical fluency: ability to go deep with engineers on architecture, APIs, distributed systems, state, data models, permissions, reliability, and system tradeoffs (not necessarily writing production code). - Demonstrated ability to turn ambiguous or customer-specific problems into simple, reusable product abstractions. - Customer obsession and willingness to operate close to deployments and customer environments. - Experience in high-growth environments where architecture evolved while shipping continued. - Ability to move fluidly between long-term platform strategy and detailed product decisions. - Strong opinions, loosely held; ability to create clarity with incomplete information and change direction quickly with new evidence. - High bar for product quality balanced with urgency. Particularly Compelling: - Experience at breakout AI companies or exceptional B2B software companies where platform leverage drove scale. - Background in agent infrastructure, workflow automation, integration platforms, developer platforms, enterprise infrastructure, or AI/ML systems. - Experience building products that interact with messy third-party or legacy systems. - Background in logistics, manufacturing, commerce, construction, healthcare, field services, or industries where software touches the physical world. - Experience building technology for domain experts who are exceptionally good at their jobs but shouldn't need to become technical to use your product. - Supply chain domain expertise is useful but not required; exceptional product judgment and technical depth matter more.
