OpenGov is seeking a Product Engineer III to own foundational areas of the Public Service Platform, specifically Identity and Access Management capabilities that power secure access for government users, public users, and internal staff. This is a career-level individual contributor role for someone who operates independently, communicates proactively, and takes clear accountability for product outcomes. In this role, you will define and communicate the product vision for your area grounded in customer research, competitive context, and business goals. You'll conduct and synthesize customer discovery, translating findings into clear, defensible decisions about what to build and what to cut. You own the product roadmap, prioritizing ruthlessly and revising it when new facts warrant changes. Key responsibilities include shipping code to production with full agency (not just prototypes), defining user experience flows and interaction patterns within the design system, and writing clear intent documents that AI tooling can execute against. You'll partner with engineering to unblock builds, resolve ambiguity in real time, and make decisions during the development cycle without becoming a bottleneck. You'll track adoption, usage, and business outcome metrics to drive iteration, and represent your product in customer conversations, QBRs, and cross-functional reviews. OpenGov leverages AI-native tooling extensively: AI drafts specs from your intent statements (you review and own), generates mockups from the design system, helps ship features alongside engineering, synthesizes research, generates release content, performs automated code review, generates test cases, and monitors competitive intelligence. Your role is to understand customers, make calls on what matters, own outcomes, and build the cross-functional trust that makes things ship. OpenGov is the leader in AI and ERP solutions for local and state governments in the U.S., serving more than 2,000 cities, counties, state agencies, school districts, and special districts. The company is headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dubuque, Dallas, and Pune, and employs 800+ people globally. QUALIFICATIONS: - 4–6 years of experience in product management, UX design, or closely adjacent role, with demonstrated track record of shipping products customers use - Demonstrated experience building and implementing Access Control systems at scale, including working with internal stakeholders to onboard new products - Ability to conduct and synthesize customer discovery and translate findings into prioritized roadmap decisions - Proactively identifies challenges and communicates issues early; strong written and verbal skills - Connects different functional areas and understands their interdependencies within the broader organization - Comfortable defining user experience flows and working within a design system - Proficient or actively developing proficiency in AI-native workflows - SaaS product experience required; B2G (business-to-government) background welcome
