OpenAI is seeking a full-stack product engineer to build the next generation of AI coworkers—persistent agents that operate autonomously in workplace environments and help individuals, teams, and organizations delegate meaningful work.
You will own product experiences end-to-end, balancing frontend and backend development equally. The role sits at the intersection of product engineering, design, agent capabilities, and enterprise readiness. You'll translate rapidly evolving AI model and platform capabilities into intuitive, trustworthy experiences that customers can understand and use daily.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and ship full-stack product experiences for discovering, directing, and collaborating with AI coworkers
- Create intuitive frontend interfaces (TypeScript, React) for directing agents, reviewing progress, and understanding their actions
- Build backend APIs, services, and data models (Python, Go, Rust, or similar) supporting persistent agent state, asynchronous execution, and orchestration
- Develop workflows enabling agents to access context, use tools, and collaborate across workplace surfaces and channels
- Partner with product, design, research, and engineering teams to turn shared capabilities into cohesive products
- Embed trust through clear user controls, understandable agent behavior, safe execution, and reliable operational foundations
- Use customer feedback and rapid iteration to identify high-value workflows and improve agent effectiveness
Ideal candidates have 7+ years of professional full-stack or product engineering experience, with a track record of shipping polished user-facing products and production backend systems. Strong frontend skills in TypeScript and React are essential, as is backend experience in Python, Go, Rust, or similar languages. You should have strong product judgment, experience designing software for complex workflows or enterprise environments, and the ability to reason about asynchronous systems, reliability, performance, and security tradeoffs. High agency, strong execution, and enthusiasm for building new products in a fast-moving environment are critical. Interest in AI agents and the future of work is valued; prior agentic systems or enterprise software experience is helpful but not required.
