Gaia is transforming fertility care to make it accessible to everyone by building technology infrastructure that reduces costs and improves outcomes. The company's mission is to remove financial barriers to family building in a market where only 2% of babies are born via IVF despite 1 in 6 people experiencing fertility challenges.
As a Product Engineer, you will architect core infrastructure components that power Gaia's platform:
**The Gaia Orchestrator**: An internal framework automating care navigation, financing, clinic operations, and risk tracking across patients, clinics, lenders, and insurers. You'll own slices of this system including state machines, workflows, and integrations with external healthcare and financial systems not designed to interoperate.
**AI-Native Operations Layer**: Gaia uses AI as infrastructure, not just features. You'll build and extend LLM-powered agents and scheduled routines that run ops, compliance, and member workflows.
**Real-time Underwriting Engine**: You'll work on predictive modeling and data pipelines that make fertility care financially accessible by adapting to patient and clinical data.
**Member-Facing Experiences**: Crafting moments that matter—from pre-cycle intake to outcome reporting. You'll build experiences for people at vulnerable points in their family-building journey.
The technical environment is highly regulated (HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II, PHI), emotionally charged, financially complex (lending, insurance, outcome-based pricing), and technically fragmented (integrating disparate healthcare systems). You'll solve problems that directly impact people's ability to start families.
Gaia is backed by top-tier VCs including Atomico and Valar Ventures. The company operates with 3,500 members generating $100M gross revenue, with clear scaling potential to $1B+ as membership grows.
**Requirements:**
- 5+ years as a full-stack engineer in startup environments
- Strong Python and TypeScript; Frappe framework experience is a plus but not required
- Experience with MariaDB or other RDBMS
- Strong technical background in high-quality code and infrastructure
- **Non-negotiable: AI nativeness** — You must actively use AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or equivalent) as a core part of your development workflow. You've integrated LLM APIs into real projects, automated your own workflows, and AI has materially changed how you work in the last 12 months. Surface-level curiosity is insufficient.
- Mindset: user-first thinking, comfort with cross-functional collaboration, ability to break down loosely-defined projects, balance of tactical execution and strategic thinking, holistic problem-solving beyond pure technical considerations
