Mariana Minerals is a software-first, vertically integrated minerals company focused on supplying critical minerals for modern energy, AI, and defense technologies. The company is reimagining the minerals supply chain through deep industry expertise combined with advanced software, automation, and data-driven decision-making. As a Process Modeling Engineer, you will develop, validate, and optimize heat and material balance models for next-generation critical mineral refining processes. You'll work closely with R&D, pilot operations, and project execution teams to translate laboratory and pilot data into robust, scalable process models that drive the design of first-of-a-kind mineral refining facilities. Key responsibilities include: - Developing steady-state and dynamic process models using ASPEN Plus/HYSYS, SysCAD, OLI Studio, or METSIM to establish heat and material balances for integrated mineral refinery systems - Automating equipment and process sizing (reactors, heat exchangers, filters, crystallizers, evaporators, separators) based on model outputs - Developing and maintaining process simulation databases with consistency and traceability - Calibrating and reconciling models using pilot or plant operating data - Conducting process optimization studies focused on energy/heat recovery, recycle strategies, and material efficiency - Developing dynamic process models to validate PLC and DCS programming - Linking process models to CAPEX and OPEX estimation tools for techno-economic modeling - Documenting methodologies and results for design reviews, assessments, and regulatory submissions Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Process, or Metallurgical Engineering; proficiency in at least one process simulation tool; and deep understanding of mass transfer, heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid flow, and reaction engineering. Experience with material and energy balances for multi-step integrated systems, chemical equilibria, phase behavior, data reconciliation, and model validation is essential. Python or MATLAB competency and experience integrating process modeling into EPC deliverables are strong advantages.
