BillionToOne is seeking a Process Engineering Associate I/II to join the Process Engineering team supporting clinical patient testing in a high-throughput CLIA laboratory. This role focuses on developing tools for improved clinical workflow efficiency, analyzing process data to monitor and troubleshoot high-throughput assays, and identifying root causes of recurring errors with proper documentation for long-term corrective actions. Key responsibilities include applying sound engineering practices to scale and optimize molecular biology methods; conducting experiments to identify and confirm root causes of process errors; developing methods to compile and analyze large amounts of process data for stability assessment and improvement identification; developing and implementing software tools to aid efficient sample processing; using R or Python to quantitatively analyze process efficiency and error sources; identifying root causes for process and instrument errors and developing solutions; developing training plans for clinical personnel on modified workflows; supporting technology transfer from R&D to the CLIA lab; and generating proper documentation for troubleshooting and qualification. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in biology or clinical-related sciences with at least 6 months of experience with molecular biology techniques in a research or clinical laboratory. Required skills include excellent attention to detail, effective written and verbal communication, and logical troubleshooting abilities. Preferred qualifications include automation or clinical laboratory experience, start-up experience, next-generation sequencing (NGS) experience, knowledge of molecular oncology, and experience in cell-free DNA settings. This is an onsite role requiring the majority of time in the Menlo Park office.
