The EVERY Company is a VC-backed food tech ingredient company using precision fermentation to create animal proteins without the animal. They serve the global food and beverage industry with hyper-functional, one-to-one replacement proteins produced from microorganisms.
As a Downstream Process Engineer II, you will be an integral member of the downstream process development team, optimizing EVERY's production process through experimentation and seeing results at pilot and commercial-scale biomanufacturing sites. This role bridges laboratory innovation and real-world manufacturing scale.
Key responsibilities include:
- Optimize the downstream process via iterative cycles: develop improvements in the lab, scale up to external pilot plants, and bring learnings back for further refinement
- Perform various unit operations at EVERY HQ including tangential flow filtration (TFF), depth filtration, chromatography, spray drying, and other purification/separation processes
- Develop and review tech transfer documentation to ensure successful scale-up trials; travel to external pilot plants to oversee process scaling
- Coordinate with third-party vendors (equipment, chemicals) to arrange internal and external trials
- Partner with EVERY scientists and engineers to advance bench-scale ideas to pilot scale
- Analyze results and report data to enable proper interpretation and follow-up experiments
- Communicate findings through verbal and written channels; actively participate in meetings
- Follow department and corporate guidelines, compliance, and safety procedures
The role offers exposure to the full development cycle—from lab optimization through commercial manufacturing—and requires travel to CMO facilities (up to 25% internationally) to support process development activities.
Requirements:
- BS in Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, or related discipline with 3 years of industry experience
- Practical experience with and theoretical knowledge of traditional processing unit operations: TFF, depth filtration, continuous centrifugation, chromatography, spray drying
- Experience executing tech transfers to external parties (pilot or CMO facilities)
- Experience leading technical conversations with third-party vendors and equipment suppliers
- Eagerness to learn from and collaborate with scientists and engineers
- Ability to travel internationally (up to 25%) to support process development at CMOs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills across all organizational levels
