Plaid is seeking a Privacy & Regulatory Counsel to join its Privacy & Regulatory Legal team. The company powers financial connectivity for millions of users and thousands of developers, working with major fintech companies, banks, and Fortune 500 firms across the US, Canada, UK, and Europe.
In this role, you will partner with cross-functional teams including Product, Governance, People, and Compliance to analyze complex legal and regulatory issues, provide practical guidance, and support business initiatives in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. You will monitor and analyze new or changing laws, regulations, supervisory guidance, and enforcement activity, translating them into concise, actionable guidance for business partners. You will maintain Plaid's regulatory policies, positions, and analyses, and support the Policy team on proactive engagement with policymakers and regulators.
Key responsibilities include answering regulatory compliance questions across teams, partnering with Compliance and Security to assess risks and implement updates, and creating training materials to help cross-functional teams understand and apply regulatory requirements. REQUIREMENTS:
- J.D. or equivalent law degree with active membership in at least one U.S. state bar in good standing
- 5+ years of legal experience providing solutions-oriented advice in a reputable law firm or in-house legal department
- Strong knowledge of U.S. financial-services, consumer-protection, privacy, and AI/ADMT regulations
- Experience with GLBA, FCRA, UDAAP, PIPEDA, GDPR, state privacy laws, and related regulatory frameworks
- Experience monitoring and interpreting statutes, regulations, supervisory guidance, enforcement actions, and regulatory trends; ability to provide actionable guidance to business partners
- Familiarity with regulatory-change management, compliance-program design, policy governance, risk assessments, control implementation, and evidence of compliance
- Strong legal judgment, analytical skills, issue-spotting, organization, and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to explain complex issues to non-lawyer audiences
- Collaborative and proactive approach with willingness to share information early and drive clear follow-through
- Comfort working through ambiguity and recommending risk-based options in a fast-moving environment
- Experience supporting businesses operating in regulated industries strongly preferred
