Salary: USD 171,500 - 245,000 / annual
Zscaler is seeking a Principal Technical Marketing Engineer to drive technical enablement, customer validation, and field readiness for next-generation Zero Trust Branch solutions. This hybrid role (three days on-site in San Jose) reports to the VP of Product Management.
You will architect and maintain complex lab environments simulating enterprise branch, edge, and retail network topologies. You'll lead hands-on Proof of Value (POV) engagements with enterprise prospects and customers, directly owning technical demonstrations and pilot evaluations to validate capabilities, eliminate sales friction, and accelerate deal closure.
As the technical bridge between engineering and field teams, you will serve as the escalation point for complex L2/L3 networking issues, diagnosing and resolving critical packet-level anomalies during customer pilots. You'll author production-grade technical collateral including deployment runbooks, reference architectures, white papers, and competitive test plans. You'll also deliver technical enablement training to Systems Engineers, professional services teams, and channel partner architects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading customer POV engagements and architectural evaluations in complex enterprise and distributed edge environments
- Designing, deploying, and maintaining resilient physical and virtual networking lab topologies using bare-metal appliances, hypervisors (ESXi, KVM), and network emulation platforms (EVE-NG, GNS3)
- Diagnosing and resolving critical networking escalations, network segmentation challenges, and packet-level anomalies
- Developing step-by-step deployment guides, reference architectures, and technical collateral
- Creating and conducting technical training programs and interactive workshops

REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in technical marketing, solutions architecture, or advanced systems engineering
- Deep subject matter expertise in enterprise routing, switching, TCP/IP, L2/L3 network segmentation, and tunneling protocols (WireGuard, IPsec, VxLAN)
- Proven track record leading hands-on customer POV pilots and executive architectural evaluations in complex enterprise and distributed edge networking environments
- Hands-on proficiency building and maintaining multi-vendor physical and virtual network lab topologies using bare-metal appliances, hypervisors, and network emulation platforms
- Advanced packet analysis and troubleshooting expertise using Wireshark, tcpdump, and traffic generation tools to diagnose routing anomalies, latency/jitter, MTU issues, and NAT/firewall traversal
- Demonstrated track record authoring production-grade technical collateral and delivering technical enablement sessions to sales engineering, professional services, and partner teams
- Demonstrated curiosity and active exploration of AI tools with proven history of integrating new technologies to enhance workflows
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Practical experience with Python, Bash scripting, or infrastructure-as-code tools (Ansible, Terraform, REST APIs) to automate lab deployment and testing
- Working knowledge of public cloud networking architectures (AWS VPCs/Transit Gateways, Azure Virtual WAN, GCP Cloud Routers) or container networking (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Recognized networking or security certifications (CCIE/CCNP Enterprise or Security, JNCIP, PCNSE) or direct architectural experience with retail, kiosk, IoT/OT, or cellular WAN/5G deployments
