Roblox is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Safety Experience team within the Trust & Safety organization. This role focuses on revolutionizing how Roblox users perceive safety by developing agentic applications and complex technical solutions at scale.
You will design and build agentic workflows and technical solutions for both customer-facing applications and internal use cases. You'll stay current with recent trends in large language models (LLMs) and develop innovative features for chatbot experiences while optimizing for cost efficiency. Working collaboratively with product, operations, and cross-functional stakeholders, you'll influence the team's roadmap and long-term strategy to develop the next generation of safety experiences. You'll provide technical leadership that influences decisions within and beyond your pod, and mentor junior engineers to strengthen their technical skills and support their professional growth.
Roblox's Safety organization is mission-driven to become the leader in civil immersive online communities. The team systematically detects, removes, and prevents problematic content and behavior while ensuring accounts remain secure. The work spans machine learning, 3D model classifiers, experimentation, automation, detection workflows, and AI-powered text filters. Safety Experience specifically focuses on the human moments where safety shows up: ratings on games, customer care responses, account suspension fairness, and account recovery experiences.
The role is based in San Mateo, CA, with hybrid work expectations (onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; optional Monday and Friday).
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with minimum 8 years of hands-on experience; graduate degree highly preferred
- Proven experience developing innovative solutions using LLMs (required)
- Extensive experience with modern programming languages such as C#, Java, Python, or similar, with strong emphasis on efficient, maintainable, and scalable code
- In-depth knowledge of contemporary software design patterns including microservice architecture, RESTful APIs, and Remote Procedure Calls (RPC), with proven track record of building robust and scalable systems
- Demonstrated ability to develop end-to-end solutions for complex technical challenges, collaborating across multiple teams from conception through launch
- Prior experience in machine learning is helpful
- Technical leadership qualities: you have initiated and facilitated challenging technical solutions, your expertise influences product direction, and you foster technical excellence
- Versatility across languages and technologies; resourceful and creative problem-solver
