Vanta is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to own the architectural foundation of its enterprise organizational model. This is a newly chartered group focused on enabling complex enterprise structures within Vanta's Governance and Compliance platform.
You will own the design, phased delivery, and long-term technical direction of Vanta's enterprise org model—a multi-quarter initiative that cuts across the platform. Key responsibilities include:
- Design and deliver Vanta's enterprise org model, including hierarchical product lines, business units, isolated data access, cross-cutting audit workflows, scoped approvals, and data residency support (EU, GovCloud)
- Define core abstractions that generalize diverse enterprise requirements rather than accommodating one-off customer needs
- Retrofit a live production system toward multi-tenant org structure with safe migration paths and incremental delivery
- Ship meaningful customer value each quarter while progressing toward the full solution, requiring product judgment and direct enterprise customer engagement
- Drive execution across squads outside your direct area through technical clarity and credibility
- Partner with Engineering leadership, Product, and Design to translate vision into phased, deliverable work
- Set technical standards for the group and model engineering excellence
You should have 15+ years of deep backend engineering experience with a track record of leading complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives in fast-paced, product-focused environments. You've designed platform abstractions that absorbed messy, conflicting enterprise requirements across diverse customer bases. You have a history of shipping large, structurally complex problems incrementally, with each phase standing on its own. You operate effectively across teams you don't own, building alignment through technical clarity. Deep familiarity with enterprise architectural patterns—tenancy models, RBAC, data isolation, scoped permissions, cross-tenant operations, access boundary design—is essential. Strong communication skills are critical for making complex systems legible to leadership, product partners, and customer-facing stakeholders. Data residency or GovCloud exposure is a plus. You're open to using AI to amplify your skills and strengthen your work.
