Docker is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead the technical direction of the networking stack powering Docker's agentic Sandboxes platform. This is a high-impact role combining deep infrastructure expertise with technical leadership of a small engineering team. You will design, implement, and operate core networking services across local laptops and public cloud environments, building scalable infrastructure for microVM orchestration, workload scheduling, and lifecycle management. Key responsibilities include developing high-performance networking data- and control-plane components for multi-tenant agentic workloads, ensuring network reliability and observability, collaborating across product and security teams, and participating in on-call rotation for production incident response. The role requires 10+ years building large-scale cloud or distributed systems with deep networking foundations. You should have a track record of driving technical consensus and delivering high-quality infrastructure software at scale. Required expertise includes microservices architecture, container networking, service mesh, policy enforcement, container orchestration, kernel and user-space networking (Linux, OVS/OVN, DPDK, eBPF), and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI). Strong problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills are essential for this remote-first, cross-functional role. In your first 30 days, you'll onboard with the Sandbox infrastructure teams and identify high-leverage architectural opportunities. By 90 days, you'll develop a technical roadmap and establish standards for development and operations. Over one year, you'll drive simplification of foundational networking infrastructure and establish repeatable engineering practices for quality and operational excellence. Docker is a globally distributed, remote-first team building developer tools trusted by 20+ million monthly users. The company is at the center of the shift toward AI-driven software development, providing sandboxed environments and secure infrastructure for autonomous workflows.
