As Principal Software Engineer, you will set technical direction at the organization-wide level, owning Apollo's most critical and ambiguous technical challenges. You will make architectural decisions that shape the product and platform over multiple years, with accountability for their outcomes. Your primary responsibilities include: - Owning technical direction for Apollo's most critical problems across team and organizational boundaries - Making architectural bets that define the product and platform strategy over multiple years - Setting technical strategy for the AI and agents rebuild and translating it into executable direction for teams - Raising the engineering bar across the organization through standards, patterns, and decisions you drive - Multiplying engineer and team output through design review, mentorship, and guidance of senior engineers - Partnering with engineering and product leadership as a peer on technology strategy You will operate as an AI-native engineer by default, using agents to accelerate design, investigation, and implementation work. You will define practices other engineers adopt and identify step-change opportunities where AI reshapes product development, not just shipping velocity. The ideal candidate has a track record of setting technical direction that shaped products or platforms across entire engineering organizations. You should have deep expertise in distributed systems and architecture, with command of reliability, scale, and cost tradeoffs behind company-defining decisions. This is a high-impact individual contributor role focused on technical leadership and organizational influence rather than people management.
