Okta's Auth0 Developer Platform team is seeking a Principal Software Engineer (P5) to serve as the technical leader and compass for the platform that developers and AI agents build identity on. This is a high-impact individual contributor role focused on platform architecture, distributed systems design, and technical direction-setting.
You will own the platform architecture and make cross-cutting decisions that keep it coherent and scalable as usage grows. Key responsibilities include designing distributed systems for throughput, reliability, and consistency; turning vaguely specified platform problems into clear technical designs; shaping the platform to support both human developers and AI agents as first-class consumers; raising the engineering bar through mentorship and code review; and partnering with tech leads across teams to maintain wider platform alignment.
The role requires deep expertise in distributed systems, high-scale backend and event-driven architecture, and platform design. You should have 10+ years of software engineering experience with a proven track record as a Principal or Staff-level individual contributor. Strong Node.js fundamentals are required (Go is a plus). IAM platform expertise and hands-on familiarity with agentic tooling, MCP, or LLM-facing design are highly valued.
