Zscaler is seeking a Principal Software Development Engineer to join its cloud security platform team in Bangalore. You will design, develop, and optimize high-performance network system architecture and security features supporting mission-critical applications. The role involves partnering with Engineering Architects, Product Managers, Solution Architects, and customers to understand complex use cases and translate requirements into scalable solutions.
Key responsibilities include: designing and optimizing network system architecture; authoring design and functional specifications; driving unit testing and automation for high product quality; collaborating across cross-functional teams to resolve system-level issues and optimize data path performance; and coaching junior team members while maintaining compliance with federal security certifications.
You will work on the world's largest cloud security platform, which serves 15 million users across 185 countries and holds over 100 patents. The platform leverages a security data lake to power Zscaler's cloud-native Zero Trust Exchange, protecting customers from cyberattacks and data loss by securely connecting users, devices, and applications.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field with 10+ years of system engineering experience for high-performance networking. Deep expertise in Linux kernel-based networking (L2/L3), stateful firewalls, NAT, network drivers, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, PIM). Proficiency in Go and Python with strong debugging skills for complex data path issues. Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred qualifications include experience integrating AI/ML frameworks for kernel-level networking optimization, familiarity with WireGuard and tunneling protocols, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and security certifications (FIPS/FedRAMP).
