MaintainX, now part of Autodesk Operations Solutions, is a mobile-first work execution platform serving 13,000+ customers including Duracell, McDonald's, Shell, DHL, and Volvo. The platform manages 13.9 million assets and 79.5 million completed work orders, helping industrial and frontline teams reduce unplanned downtime.
You'll join the Backend Platform Engineering division, working within a team of 150+ internal developers. The role focuses on building an AI-native platform that accelerates developer productivity and shortens the time from idea to value.
Key responsibilities:
- Set technical direction, governance, and architecture for backend services across the engineering organization
- Integrate AI-native workflows into platform tooling, changing how developers and agents build services
- Identify and resolve cross-cutting technical challenges before they become delivery blockers
- Define and evolve platform-wide standards, patterns, and abstractions adopted across teams
- Influence roadmap priorities by framing trade-offs and driving alignment across engineering, product, and analytics
- Drive adoption of platform changes across multiple teams
- Mentor and elevate senior engineers through complex problems and architectural decisions
- Lead complex, multi-squad initiatives with minimal direction
- Participate in on-call rotation
You'll work on a platform spanning cloud infrastructure (AWS), infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/Atmos), CI/CD, GraphQL federation, event-driven systems, APIs, and developer experience.
Requirements:
- Strong AI-native mindset with demonstrated experience bringing AI-assisted workflows into a platform or organization
- Deep expertise in distributed systems with a track record of architectural decisions with long-term, cross-organizational, multi-year consequences
- Deep exposure across several key platform domains: AWS, Terraform/Atmos, CI/CD, GraphQL federation, event-driven systems, APIs, and developer experience
- Expert-level proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, or similar languages with a track record of setting standards others adopt
- Demonstrated cross-team impact: changing how multiple teams build, decide, or deliver
- Ability to frame ambiguous technical problems and drive them to resolution with minimal guidance
- Experience navigating organizational complexity, aligning stakeholders, and using data to demonstrate impact
- Strong technical judgment balanced with pragmatism
- Expert-level English, spoken and written, for leading platform engineering managers and presenting to executive stakeholders
