Port is building an open, flexible Agentic SDLC Platform that serves as the central nervous system for engineering organizations. Following a $100M Series C funding round, the company is in rapid hypergrowth with strong enterprise momentum. The platform unifies engineering stacks and exposes them as governed layers through golden paths for developers and AI agents, helping organizations transition from manual processes to autonomous, AI-assisted engineering workflows.
As Principal Software Architect, you will own the technical vision for foundational infrastructure and shape how engineering works across Port's entire R&D organization. This is a high-leverage role at the intersection of deep technical craft and strategic platform thinking. You will not be embedded in a single product team; instead, you'll operate across the entire R&D organization, reporting directly to the VP of R&D and serving as a technical force-multiplier for directors and team leads.
Key responsibilities include:
**System Design & Scaling**: Architect robust, high-performance, scalable systems across the platform. Lead design of resilient, performant, maintainable core infrastructure. Design a more robust integration layer to make third-party integrations more scalable and higher quality. Architect high-throughput data and messaging pipelines for real-time data ingestion and event-driven architectures.
**Data Modeling & Analytics**: Redesign and optimize the data modeling layer including hierarchies, entity types, and relationships. Architect a comprehensive data analytics pipeline for large-scale data source processing and aggregated metric calculations. Design engineering metrics delivery pipelines to enable measurement of developer productivity and platform health.
**Enterprise Readiness & Security**: Drive technical planning and execution of cross-functional enterprise initiatives including FedRAMP compliance and SSDLC practices. Design and implement robust security frameworks aligned with enterprise customer requirements.
**Reliability & Quality**: Conduct deep-dive root cause analyses on production incidents and drive structural improvements. Design and implement comprehensive end-to-end load and performance testing ecosystems.
**FinOps & Cost Architecture**: Analyze cloud infrastructure spend and identify architectural optimizations. Challenge existing storage and infrastructure decisions to optimize cost without compromising performance.
**Technology Strategy & Mentorship**: Review and recommend technologies, SDKs, and platforms. Mentor and uplevel technical leads across R&D teams. Push for adoption of AI-SDLC practices. Participate in senior technical hiring.
