Graphcore is seeking a Principal Software Architect to define and drive the architectural vision of the software stack for its ML accelerator platform. As part of the SoftBank Group, Graphcore is a leading innovator in AI compute, developing hardware, software, and systems infrastructure for next-generation AI breakthroughs.
In this role, you will shape the architecture of the software ecosystem and maintain deep understanding of how hardware and software components interact. You will define, document, and communicate the overarching architecture spanning firmware to ML frameworks, ensuring coherence across different software domains.
Key responsibilities include:
- Define and document the software architecture of the complete stack
- Work across software domains to ensure end-to-end architectural coherence
- Clearly communicate architecture to engineering teams and stakeholders
- Continuously maintain and evolve the architecture as the product develops
- Assess architectural impact of new technologies and trends in the ML/software ecosystem
- Ensure architecture meets usability, performance, reliability, maintainability, testability, security, and observability requirements
- Prototype and validate architectural concepts through proof-of-concept implementations
- Collaborate with hardware and silicon architects to align product needs
- Work with engineering, product, leadership, and partners to align business goals with architectural direction
You bring expertise in one or more of: firmware, drivers, ML frameworks (PyTorch, Triton), collectives, HPC, tooling, C/C++, or CPU architectures. You have technical expertise in ML accelerator software, excellent written and verbal communication skills, a collaborative mindset with strong influence capabilities, and a pragmatic approach to decision-making with awareness of trade-offs and implications. Prior experience in an architecture role is desirable.
