Expel is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineer to lead reliability initiatives across the platform. This role combines hands-on infrastructure work with mentorship and strategic planning. You'll spend your time collaborating with architects and product stakeholders on quarterly reliability roadmaps, pair-programming with junior SREs to mentor them through complex Kubernetes deployments, and leading incident response and root cause analysis efforts. Key responsibilities include: - Leading project work to build and maintain platform features spanning reliability, networking, and cloud infrastructure - Contributing infrastructure-as-code commits daily using Terraform, Ansible, and similar tools, with occasional application development in Python, Golang, and JavaScript - Mentoring service owners on deploying, measuring, monitoring, and operating services at scale - Participating in weekly on-call rotation and providing working-hours support to platform users - Leading incident response, triage, and root cause analysis You'll work with modern cloud-native tooling including Kubernetes, GCP/AWS, and HashiCorp products. The role emphasizes operational reliability as a shared mission across engineering, with your focus on making it easy for teams to achieve reliability goals. Required experience includes six years in systems operations or development, significant Kubernetes expertise in distributed environments, GCP or AWS proficiency, monitoring/observability infrastructure knowledge, infrastructure-as-code practices, and Linux development experience (preferably Python/Golang). You should bring a customer-minded approach, collaborative disposition, and passion for continuous learning.
