Precision Medicine Group seeks a Principal Scientist to lead scientific strategy and execution in translational medicine research, with primary focus on Immuno-Oncology and autoimmune/inflammatory disease spaces. This role reports to the Senior Vice President of Lab Operations and is instrumental in delivering exceptional services to the company's global biopharmaceutical clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Mentor, coach, and provide team leadership to Flow Laboratory team members, including one-on-one engagement meetings, goal-setting, performance reviews, and work prioritization
- Design and implement cell-based assays to meet client specifications, including complex flow immunophenotyping assays (up to 31 markers), receptor occupancy assays, tetramer/dextramer assays, and antigen-specific assays (ELISpot/Fluorospot)
- Write and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure assays meet client requirements and appropriate regulatory compliance (GLP, CAP, CLIA, ISO guidelines)
- Execute cell-based assays including flow immunophenotyping, ELISpot, and custom assays using current SOPs
- Generate technical reports and client communications presenting data and progress
- Author posters, papers, reviews, and white papers for conference submission and peer-reviewed journals
- Train scientific and technical staff in laboratory procedures, data review, and presentation; devise and perform validation schemas to ensure staff competency
- Track and trend laboratory efficiency and quality metrics
- Act as internal technical expert on advances and industry trends; serve as thought leader to management on strategic matters
- Promote the company through networking, speaking engagements, professional associations, and publications
- Perform duties with high independence, quality, and efficiency
Requirements:
Minimum Required:
- Ph.D. in life sciences or relevant field (preferably Immunology or Cellular Biology)
- At least 8 years of full-time post-doctoral laboratory experience
Other Required:
- Strong bench scientist skills in cell-based assays with hands-on flow cytometry experience (required); ELISpot and other cell-based assays preferred
- Core competencies in standard biology laboratory techniques including cell isolation and primary cell-based assays
- Experience with cell sorting, troubleshooting, client relationships, alliance partnerships, and timeline management
- Experience validating/qualifying assays to CAP/CLIA/GLP or ISO guidelines
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Experienced in technical report generation
- Ability to differentiate colors across full color spectrum
- Ability to lift and carry 1–15 lbs regularly; lift up to 50 lbs overhead with assistance; frequently sit, grasp, and use finger dexterity; may be exposed to freezer environments (-20°C to -196°C)
- Fluent English (read, write, speak, comprehend)
Preferred:
- 10–15+ years as core lab member with leadership role managing flow cytometry team
- Industrial experience and/or management of outside collaborations
- Experience with viral infections, cell culture, cell line derivation, nucleic acid extraction from primary human samples, and nucleic acid characterization by spectrophotometer, Agilent, or fluorescence-based detection
