Robust AI is an early-stage robotics and AI startup founded in 2019, building the next generation of autonomous warehouse robotic systems. As Principal Safety Systems Engineer, you will lead the safety strategy and technical direction for a small, fast-paced engineering team. You will own the complete safety and compliance roadmap end-to-end, including setting technical direction, driving architectural decisions independently, and representing safety considerations to customers, regulators, and internal leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing and executing the safety strategy for robotic systems deployed in warehouse environments
- Driving comprehensive testing programs and influencing design decisions at the architecture level
- Managing relationships with external certification bodies and regulatory bodies
- Working closely with the broader engineering team to integrate safety considerations throughout the product development lifecycle
- Operating with significant autonomy in an early-stage environment while remaining flexible as priorities shift
This role is ideal for someone with prior experience leading safety systems at a technical level, comfortable with the pace and uncertainty of early-stage startups, and capable of pivoting effectively as the company evolves. You will have the opportunity to shape safety practices from the ground up and directly influence the company's approach to building safe, collaborative, and genuinely autonomous robots.
