Quizlet is a $1B+ learning platform serving 60M+ users and powering over 2 billion learning interactions monthly, including two-thirds of U.S. high schoolers and half of U.S. college students. The company blends cognitive science with machine learning to personalize learning experiences. You will be the hands-on product leader for a brand-new education consumer product being built inside Quizlet with startup focus and speed. This is a true 0→1 mandate with a dedicated team of roughly 15 people, a new technology stack, and a flat operating model designed for quick decision-making and frequent shipping. You'll work directly with the product GM and alongside engineering, design, research, data, and go-to-market partners. Key responsibilities include: - Own product strategy and execution from problem definition through launch, adoption, and product-market fit - Drive the full 0→1 cycle: concept refinement, prototyping, alpha to MVP launch, measurement, and rapid iteration - Work closely with design and engineering to ship high-quality experiences quickly, making sharp decisions about scope, sequencing, and technical investment - Stay close to users through interviews, prototype testing, behavioral data, experiments, and live feedback - Define success metrics and instrumentation, focusing on activation, engagement, retention, and evidence of durable consumer value - Communicate clearly about what you believe, what you've learned, what remains unknown, and which decisions the team needs to make - Develop launch and distribution strategy with growth and marketing teams, leveraging Quizlet's reach - Establish lightweight product practices that enable fast, rigorous decisions - Help build team culture: ambitious, user-obsessed, analytically rigorous, low-ego, biased toward shipping real products This is a builder role, not a roadmap-management role. You'll help determine what the product should be, build on initial customer insights and use-case wedges, and turn incomplete signals into clear product bets. The strongest candidates will have built 0→1 consumer products before and thrive when the playbook doesn't yet exist. Education experience is welcome but not required—Quizlet has deep education and learning expertise already. The role is hybrid in San Francisco, requiring presence in the office at least two days per week (Wednesday and Thursday). Requirements: - 8+ years of product management experience or equivalent track record - Direct ownership of at least one consumer product taken from ambiguous problem or blank page through launch and measurable adoption - Deep B2C product experience with strong judgment about consumer motivation, onboarding, activation, engagement, retention, and habit formation - Evidence of discovering product direction, not only delivering features against established roadmaps - Strong 0→1 toolkit: finding a wedge, testing riskiest assumptions, defining MVP, distinguishing promising signals from noise - Ability to combine qualitative customer insight, quantitative analysis, market context, and experimentation for clear decisions - Comfort making consequential decisions with incomplete information and judgment to narrow, change, or kill ideas when evidence demands it - Fluency at both altitudes: articulating differentiated product vision and working through detailed tradeoffs to ship - Track record of building trusted, effective relationships with engineering, design, research, data, marketing, and business partners - Excellent communication skills and comfort working directly with GM and senior leaders in fast-changing environment - Low ego, high ownership, genuine enthusiasm for small team where everyone builds and titles matter less than outcomes Bonus experience: - Taken consumer product beyond launch into strong retention, product-market fit, and sustained growth - Built freemium, subscription, social, content, or other high-engagement consumer products - Built new product inside larger company while protecting startup focus, urgency, and accountability - Founder, early-stage startup, or general-management experience - Experience building for students, Gen Z, or high-frequency consumer audiences - Education, learning science, or edtech background or genuine curiosity about how people learn - Ambition to help build successful product and team/operating model for major new Quizlet business
