Rocket Lab is seeking a Principal Network Software Engineer to lead software development efforts for space-to-space communications, space-to-ground communications, payload software, and data security systems on a constellation of spacecraft. This role manages the software development and integration of routers, radios, and laser communication devices, working directly with subcontractors, consultants, and internal engineering teams to deliver integrated systems that meet program milestones. Key responsibilities include managing supplier and subcontractor relationships to develop and test integrated systems; designing and developing simulation and test approaches for constellation networking; defining KPIs for contractors and internal teams; setting development cadences and feature drop schedules; developing and maintaining staffing plans with senior leadership; planning major integration points and testing between teams; driving best practices for feedback collection and continuous improvement; and establishing software development standards and procedures to ensure highest quality deliverables meeting customer requirements. The successful candidate will have 12+ years of relevant industry experience with 3+ years managing projects and interfacing with external contractors. Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar technical discipline; thorough understanding of network software and software development lifecycle; experience with Jira and systems engineering methods including systems trades, requirements management, performance characterization, and interface management; active TS/SCI security clearance; and U.S. citizenship. Nice-to-have qualifications include a master's degree in a technical field, experience with SDA NEBULA architectures, cybersecurity and encryption experience, agile team leadership experience, project management certifications (PMP, APMP), and proficiency with project management tools. This role reports to the Senior Director of Space Systems Software and is based in Littleton, CO.
