Salary: USD 220,000 - 250,000 / annual

Muon Space, an end-to-end space systems provider founded in 2021, seeks a Principal Mission Architect to lead mission development and formulation efforts. You will work directly with Space Force customers (e.g., Space Systems Command) to understand their mission needs, develop complete mission concepts, and architect cost-effective space solutions. Key responsibilities include: - Developing complete mission concepts based on customer requirements - Performing mission-level analysis and owning top-level mission budgets - Defining requirements and designing missions and mission payloads - Using software tools and writing code to conduct engineering trade studies and answer system design questions - Understanding spacecraft and payload design trades, working closely with instrument design teams - Evaluating spacecraft performance and constellation configurations - Collaborating with discipline engineers and scientists to ensure mission objectives are met You will be a self-motivated, versatile engineer capable of managing teams, performing analyses, and designing practical, cost-effective space missions. The role requires travel to the Mountain View facility for in-person meetings, builds, and testing. Muon Space operates a state-of-the-art facility in Silicon Valley optimized for manufacturing spacecraft and rapid payload integration. The company delivers LEO satellite constellations for applications ranging from climate monitoring to national security. Qualifications: - B.S. or higher degree in a related engineering field plus 12 years of experience working with space missions (advanced degrees count as 2 years experience each if relevant) - Excellent communication, presentation, and coordination skills - Spacecraft design experience - Space mission design experience - Software proficiency in one or more of: Python, Julia, Matlab, C, C++ - Active TS/SCI security clearance - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with new challenges Nice-to-have skills: - Experience developing, delivering, or sustaining space-based capabilities for core Space Force mission capabilities (e.g., ALTPNT, MWTD, BMC3I) - Experience supporting science teams in mission development - Constellation design experience - Spacecraft and/or constellation operations experience
