Anduril Industries is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical engineering function for the Space Special Programs team, which designs and builds advanced spacecraft and space systems for defense applications. In this role, you will own the full-cycle mechanical design of spacecraft and associated subsystems, from requirements derivation through 3D CAD modeling, structural/thermal/dynamic analysis, materials selection, fabrication supervision, assembly, testing, and integration.
Key responsibilities include designing deployment mechanisms (antennas, solar panels), structures, pressure vessels, and mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE) for integration and assembly in a high-rate manufacturing environment. You will lead rigorous testing campaigns including vibration, shock, thermal vacuum, and thermal qualification to ensure components meet tight tolerances required for small space vehicles. Your work spans the complete engineering lifecycle: prototype development, flight article fabrication, and full qualification or acceptance testing.
As both an individual contributor and team lead, you will mentor and grow a mechanical engineering team with capabilities spanning structural analysis, thermal analysis, dynamics, spacecraft structure design, 3D CAD, design for manufacturing, and prototype/flight article development. You will also be responsible for developing mechanical design standards, techniques, and best practices across the organization. This is a high-impact role at a rapidly growing defense technology company focused on bringing cutting-edge autonomy, AI, and advanced systems to military applications.
