CesiumAstro is seeking a Principal Spacecraft Mechanical Engineer II to lead the mechanical engineering team responsible for developing advanced communication systems for satellites, UAVs, launch vehicles, and other space and airborne platforms.
In this role, you will manage a small team of mechanical engineers through all phases of spacecraft development, from concept through on-orbit operations. You will serve as the responsible mechanical authority, overseeing the design, analysis, manufacturing, assembly, testing, and qualification of novel satellite systems. Your responsibilities include requirements definition, architecture trades, block diagrams, thermal architecture, deployable and actuated structures, and environmental qualification.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanical engineers in spacecraft subsystem design
- Direct mechanical design efforts across all development phases
- Develop robust mechanical designs with expertise in CAD, mechanical interfaces, electronics packaging, and thermal architecture
- Collaborate with GNC, EPS, CDH, Payload, RF, Systems, and AI&T teams
- Present engineering design review materials to customers and executive leadership
- Participate in proposal-writing efforts
- Ensure compliance with space flight qualification standards
The ideal candidate brings versatility and proficiency in mechanical design, electronics packaging, CAD tools, mechanical interfaces, thermal architecture, and deployable structures. You should have strong written and verbal communication skills, experience in a startup or fast-paced environment, and a passion for developing cutting-edge space hardware. U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status is required per ITAR regulations.
