Relativity Space is building rockets (Terran R vehicle) and the manufacturing infrastructure to support commercial space launch. The Tooling and Factory Automation team designs and develops tools, fixtures, and automated equipment that enable production of rockets and engines at scale.
As a Principal Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer, you will lead the design and development of high-quality tooling and factory automation solutions for the Terran vehicle and Aeon engine programs. You'll work across a range of technical challenges including material handling systems, assembly fixtures, off-loaders, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing production and development tooling and automation solutions
- Integrating mechanical design and analysis concepts across multiple concurrent projects of varying scale in a fast-paced environment
- Interpreting and applying sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) to create tooling drawing definitions
- Collaborating closely with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration teams to optimize for safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, lifespan, and maintenance
- Bringing innovation and ingenuity to the design process as the company scales its automated production facility
