Valar Atomics is seeking a Principal Instrumentation & Control Engineer to lead the design, specification, integration, and commissioning of process instrumentation for advanced high-temperature gas reactor (HTGR) development and thermal test facilities. This role owns the instrumentation architecture for high-temperature, high-pressure helium systems, electric heater systems, turbomachinery, cooling systems, and reactor support equipment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Lead specification, selection, and integration of process instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, level, position, vibration, and gas analysis
- Develop instrument datasheets, P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and commissioning procedures
- Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and nuclear engineers to develop reliable measurement systems from concept through commissioning
- Ensure instrumentation meets safety, accuracy, and operational requirements for nuclear facilities
- Participate in system testing, validation, and troubleshooting
The successful candidate will be a technical leader with deep expertise in instrumentation and control systems, particularly in high-temperature and high-pressure environments. You'll have autonomy and ownership over instrumentation strategy and execution, working on mission-critical systems that enable safe and efficient nuclear power operations. This is an opportunity to shape the instrumentation architecture for next-generation advanced nuclear systems at a well-funded Series A company building the future of clean energy.
