Outpost is an orbital logistics company building reusable Earth-return vehicles that enable in-space manufacturing, on-orbit warehousing, and rapid global delivery. The CarryAll vehicle family returns payloads from 200 kg to 10 metric tons, lands within 10 meters of target, and is refurbished and relaunched. Applications span national security, commercial cargo, R&D payloads, and critical aid delivery to remote areas. You will own the complete guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) architecture for bringing mass from orbit to a precise landing point on Earth. This encompasses the deorbit burn (hitting the entry corridor), hypersonic entry (managing energy within structural and thermal limits), and guided descent (landing repeatably and cost-effectively). This is a hands-on role: you design the guidance and estimation architecture, write flight code, deploy to hardware, conduct hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing, attend drop tests and flight campaigns, and iterate based on real flight data. You will see your controllers fly within months rather than years. This is not a role where algorithms are handed over a wall; you own the full stack from concept through flight validation. The company has validated demand through defense and civil agreements with a growing government and commercial customer pipeline. Required: Bachelor's in a related technical discipline with 5+ years as a GNC or Controls professional, or an advanced degree with 3+ years in GNC/Controls. Strong software development in C++ and Python. Experience with Git, Jira, and CI/CD pipelines. Preferred: flight heritage, real-time embedded systems, guidance algorithm design, or aerospace vehicle dynamics.
