Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Principal Engineer for the Rapid Integration and Test (RIT) team within Test & Evaluation. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on hands-on engineering and technical leadership without people management responsibilities.
You will own the team's most complex integration and instrumentation work on larger, more capable test assets and platforms, accountable for results that shape RIT's technical direction. Your responsibilities include leading technical execution of complex integration and instrumentation efforts from concept through functional capability; performing hands-on build, integration, instrumentation, and modification work including fixtures, materials, power and avionics, wiring and networking, and sensor and payload integration.
You will serve as a recognized technical authority across Business Lines and partner programs, influencing decisions on complex integrations and contributing to cross-functional initiatives. You'll set technical direction and mentor the team as it takes on larger, more complex platforms. Additional duties include developing and executing streamlined test plans, ensuring adherence to baseline safety plans, cutting through red tape while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance, and providing situation reports to leadership.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline, typically 15+ years of relevant experience as a seasoned expert, deep hands-on UxS (unmanned systems) engineering expertise, experience taking complex hardware/software systems from concept through flight test, in-depth knowledge of Pixhawk autopilot systems and ArduPilot stack, hands-on experience with rapid prototyping, 3D printing, laser cutting, and composite materials, practical experience with small UAS/drones and understanding of National Airspace System regulations, ability to set technical direction and mentor teams, excellent communication skills, willingness to travel and work extended hours, and eligibility to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
Preferred qualifications include experience integrating or modifying complex platforms, advanced degree in engineering or robotics, hands-on RC helicopter or UAV experience, familiarity with rotary-wing aerodynamics, autonomy/robotics programming (Python, C++, ROS), and FAA Part 107 certification.
