Juniper Square is a leading operations platform for private markets, serving 2,300+ GPs with $300B+ under administration. The company combines technology, data, and fund administration services, and is now embedding AI across workflows via JunieAI.
As Principal Engineer, you will drive technical direction for AI systems and accounting software architecture. This is a hands-on staff-level role combining individual contribution with technical leadership and mentorship.
Key responsibilities:
- Own technical strategy and architecture for AI platform systems, including shared SDKs, guardrails, evaluation frameworks, and agentic workflows
- Write production code across full-stack backend and AI systems; this is not a delegating role
- Design and operate LLM-powered systems: RAG pipelines, agentic workflows, evaluation infrastructure, model observability, and structured output delivery
- Champion AI-native development practices and tools (Cursor, Augment) to drive team productivity
- Mentor engineers, establish coding standards and architectural documentation, and help define quality benchmarks
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, QA, and Engineering Management on technical planning and design reviews
- Handle most cross-team technical conflicts and decisions autonomously
Required expertise:
- 13–17 years software development experience
- Hands-on production experience with LLM-powered systems (agents, copilots, tool-using workflows, multi-step reasoning)
- Deep familiarity with RAG, tool-calling agents, planning/execution loops, embeddings, and semantic search
- Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated code, identify failure modes, and maintain reliability in AI-assisted workflows
- Experience shipping production-grade software using AI-assisted development across the full SDLC
- Bachelor's in Computer Science or equivalent
