Anduril Industries is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the DeviceOS platform—the foundational software layer powering defense systems across multiple product lines. This is a deeply technical, leadership-oriented role focused on ensuring the platform is robust, scalable, and ready for production deployment across diverse hardware.
You will serve as the senior technical voice for platform consumers—the engineering leads in each business line integrating Lattice OS, flashing boards, hardening images, and shipping to customers on schedule. Your responsibilities include:
• Embed with engineering leads across all business lines shipping tactical devices to understand their build processes, pain points, and custom forks.
• Develop and execute a long-term roadmap for supported compute platforms used throughout Anduril devices.
• Run continuous gap triage, ensuring every identified gap is resolved (build, assign, decline, or defer) with no ambiguity.
• Define the device baseline: OS and Jetpack configuration, product-security components, resource-bounded Lattice service profiles, and provisioning/key management strategies. Drive delivery of these standards.
• Reclaim orphaned platform code: refactor unmaintained C++, deprecate homegrown primitives in favor of standard third-party libraries, reduce dependency count, and standardize shared-library linkage.
• Collaborate with the Security organization to ensure all deployed devices are secure by default and that business partners can provision secure hardware without tribal knowledge handoffs.
• Own the unglamorous correctness work that others route around, raising standards across teams.
• Support Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) as a product and use it as a model for building new DeviceOS capabilities.
• Partner with other platform teams to build device management at scale.
You are a fit if you have shipped embedded or edge systems where OS, security posture, and application were simultaneously your responsibility. Deep experience with or passion for NixOS and declarative package management is essential. You excel at telling product teams "no, and here's why, but here's how we achieve your goals"—and having them thank you. You view unowned libraries as liabilities, not someone else's problem. You'd rather be trusted by twelve engineering leads than manage twelve direct reports.
