Anduril Industries is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the DeviceOS platform—the foundational software layer powering Anduril's family of defense technology systems. This is a deeply technical, leadership-oriented role focused on ensuring the robustness and scalability of the shared software platform across multiple hardware product lines.
You will serve as the senior technical voice for platform consumers—the engineering leads across business lines who integrate Lattice OS, flash boards, harden images, and ship to customers on schedule. Your responsibilities include:
• Embed with engineering leads across all business lines shipping tactical devices to understand their build processes, pain points, and custom forks.
• Develop and execute a long-term roadmap for supported compute platforms used throughout Anduril devices.
• Run continuous gap triage, ensuring every identified gap is resolved (build, assign, decline, or defer) with no gaps left unanswered.
• Define the device baseline: OS and Jetpack configuration, product-security components, resource-bounded Lattice service profiles, and provisioning/key management strategies. Drive delivery of these baselines.
• Reclaim orphaned platform code by standardizing on third-party libraries, reducing dependency count, and eliminating homegrown primitives.
• Collaborate with the Security organization to ensure all deployed devices are secure by default and that business partners can provision secure hardware without tribal knowledge handoffs.
• Own and permanently solve correctness work that other teams route around, raising standards across the organization.
• Support Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) as a product and use it as a model for building new DeviceOS products.
• Work with other platform capabilities to build device management at scale.
You are a trusted technical leader who influences through expertise rather than direct reports. You have shipped embedded or edge systems where OS, security posture, and application were all your responsibility simultaneously. You have deep experience with NixOS and declarative package management. You excel at telling product teams "no, and here's why, but here's how we can achieve your goals" and having them thank you for it. You view unowned libraries as liabilities, not someone else's problem.
