Salary: CAD 227,700 - 284,600 / annual
Xero is seeking a Principal Engineer to work across multiple engineering teams, guiding technical excellence and shaping group-wide technical strategy. You will bridge organizational boundaries, partner with senior leaders, and translate complex requirements into scalable, resilient software solutions.
You'll join a cross-functional engineering collective comprising product management, architecture, and core delivery teams. The environment emphasizes open communication, continuous learning, and continuous improvement within a supportive, high-trust culture.
Key responsibilities include:
- Guiding large-scale cloud-native software projects to successful delivery
- Shaping long-term architectural vision while balancing technical debt with product delivery
- Refactoring legacy services and enhancing system scalability, performance, and security standards
- Defining portfolio-wide technical frameworks, SLOs, and strategies to quantify and address technical debt
- Mentoring lead engineers and driving cross-team quality practices
- Automating delivery tooling, establishing quality standards, and refining operational metrics
- Communicating nuanced technical concepts clearly to both technical teams and executive leaders
